    Providence, R.I. - The Brown women's basketball team celebrated the 2011-12 season by honoring seven student-athletes at the team's end of the year banquet held at the Faculty Club on campus.
  • Jean Marie Burr & Sheila Dixon Honored at Cox Sports Rhode Island Basketball Awards Banquet

    Providence, RI – Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jean Marie Burr and junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) were recently honored at the Cox Sports Rhode Island Basketball Awards Banquet. Burr was named Women’s Division I Coach of the Year, while Dixon received the Rhode Island Women’s Player of the Year award.
  • Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

    Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its winter list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity athlete teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • Sheila Dixon & Hannah Passafuime Earn All-Ivy Honors

    Providence, RI- Brown women's basketball guard Sheila Dixon '13 (Schenectady, NY) earned her second consecutive Second Team All-Ivy honor, while co-captain Hannah Passafuime '12 (Soquel, CA) earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy after a vote by the Ivy League women's basketball coaches.
  • Ivy Champion Tigers Defeat Bears 77-60 on Senior Night

    Providence, RI- Princeton's Devona Allgood tallied 21 points and Niveen Rasheed scored 18 to lead the Tigers to a 77-60 victory over the Brown women's basketball team on senior night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears dropped to 16-12 overall and evened their Ivy League record to 7-7 to conclude the 2011-12 season, while Princeton improved to 23-4 and remained undefeated with a 13-0 Ivy record.
  • Women’s Basketball Hosts Penn, Princeton in Final Weekend of 2011-12 Season

    Providence, RI- The Brown women’s basketball team (16-10, 7-5 Ivy) will host the University of Pennsylvania (11-14, 7-6) on Friday, March 2, and Princeton University (21-4, 11-0) on Saturday, March 3, in their final games of the 2011-12 season. The Bears will tip-off against both the Quakers and Tigers are 7 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center, and will honor their three seniors – Sthefany Alviar, Aileen Daniels and Hannah Passafuime prior to Saturday’s games. Live stats, audio and video will be provided for both games.
  • Bears Fall Short Against Penn, 72-66

    Providence, RI- Led by Alyssa Baron's 23 points, the University of Pennsylvania Quakers (12-14, 5-7 Ivy) defeated the Brown women's basketball team (16-11, 7-6), 72-66, on Friday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
  • Brown Women’s Basketball Downs Columbia, 75-63

    The combo of senior Aileen Daniels and Lindsay Nickel proved to be too much for Columbia on Saturday night at Levien Gym as the Brown women’s basketball team topped the Lions, 75-63. The Bears improve to 16-10 overall on the season and 7-5 in the Ivy League, while Columbia falls to 3-22 and 1-10 in conference play.

    Ithaca, NY - Cornell's Clare Fitzpatrick put in a layup with four seconds remaining in the game to lead the Big Red to a 51-50 defeat over the visiting Brown women's basketball team at Newman Arena on Friday night. The loss dropped the Bears to 15-10 overall and 6-5 in the league, while Cornell improved to 11-13 overall and 5-5 in the league.
  • Women's Hoops Travels to Cornell, Columbia for Final Away Weekend of Season

    Providence, RI- The Brown women's basketball team (15-9, 6-4 Ivy) travels to Cornell and Columbia this weekend for its final away weekend of the 2011-12 season. The Bears will challenge the Big Red (10-13, 4-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday and will then take on the Lions (2-21, 0-9) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Big Green Snaps Bears Four-Game Win Streak

    Providence, RI- Dartmouth’s Faziah Steen hit a three pointer with 30 seconds left in the game to take a three-point lead en route to the Big Green’s 57-52 victory to snap Brown’s four-game conference win streak at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday evening. The loss dropped the Bears to 15-9 overall and 6-4 in the league, while the Big Green improved to 4-19 and 2-7.
  • Women’s Basketball Hosts Harvard, Dartmouth in Key Ivy Weekend

    Providence, RI- The Brown women’s basketball team (14-8, 5-3 Ivy) will host Harvard University at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 and Dartmouth at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 400 fans through the door on Friday night, and on Saturday, the Bears will be hosting their ‘Play 4 Kay’ game and ask that all fans wear pink to show their support of breast cancer awareness.

    Providence, RI- Four Bears scored in double figures to lead the Brown University women’s basketball to a 58-55 defeat over the visiting Harvard Crimson for the second straight season at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The victory improved Brown to 15-8 overall and 6-3 in the Ivy League, while the loss dropped Harvard to 12-10 overall with a 5-3 mark in the league.

    Providence, RI- Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) led the Brown women's basketball team in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and five rebounds, while also making five steals, to help the Bears to a 60-49 victory over the visiting Cornell Big Red on Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win improved Brown to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in the Ivy League, while the Big Red dropped to 9-12 and 3-4 in league play.

    Providence, RI- After five straight road games, the Brown women’s basketball team is back in the friendly confines of the Pizzitola Sports Center for games against Columbia and Cornell on Friday and Saturday evening. The Bears (12-8, 3-3 Ivy) will tip-off against the Lions (2-17, 0-5 Ivy) at 7 p.m. on Friday, and will then challenge the Big Red (9-10, 3-2 Ivy) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Women’s Basketball Defeats Columbia 72-63 in Overtime

    Providence, RI- Junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) led the Brown women’s basketball team with 20 points, including eight of the team’s 15 in overtime, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Bears to a 72-63 overtime victory over the visiting Columbia Lions on Friday evening. The victory improved Brown to 13-8 overall and 4-3 in the Ivy League, while Columbia dropped to 2-18 and 0-6 in league play.
  • Brown Triumphs Over Penn in Overtime, 59-55

    It took overtime at the Palestra on Saturday night, but in the end it was Brown who came out on top, taking a 59-55 win over Penn. Senior Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, Calif.) scored seven of Brown’s 11 overtime points to help the Bears back to .500 in Ivy League play. Passafuime finished with a game-high 19 points and did it when it mattered most, as the two teams were deadlocked at both the half, and at the end of regulation.
  • Women’s Basketball Takes on Ivy League Opponents Princeton & Penn

    Providence, RI- The Brown women’s basketball team (11-7, 2-2 Ivy) will take on first-place Princeton University (13-4, 3-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 at Jadwin Gym, and will then travel to the University of Pennsylvania (8-9, 1-2) for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 4 at The Palestra. Brown’s Friday night game vs. the Tigers will be televised on Verizon FiOS1.
  • Ivy League Leading Princeton Tops Brown, 57-45

    Princeton, N.J. – The Bears got off to a slow start at Jadwin Gym on Friday Night, falling behind 30-18 to end the first half, but Brown stayed right with Ivy League-leading Princeton in the second as each team tallied 27 points. The 57-45 win propels the Tigers to 14-4, 4-0 in conference play, while Brown falls to 11-8, 2-3 in the Ivies. Senior guard Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) tallied a team-high 10 points.
  • Hannah Passafuime Earns CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Honors

    Providence, RI- Brown women’s basketball senior captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) has earned CoSIDA Capital One First Team Academic All-District honors. Passafuime’s nomination will now be forwarded on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The team is selected by voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
  • Bears Valiant Effort Falls Short; Harvard Defeats Brown 65-57

    Cambridge, MA- The Brown women's basketball team (11-7, 2-2) overcame an 18-point second half deficit and tied the score with a three pointer by sophomore guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) with 4:31 remaining in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Harvard Crimson (9-8, 2-1) outlasted the Bears 65-57 at Lavietes Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
  • Jean Marie Burr Captures 300th Career Win in Brown's 74-50 Defeat Over Dartmouth

    Hanover, NH- Brown women’s basketball coach Jean Marie Burr captured her 300th career win when the squad defeated Dartmouth College 74-50 tonight at Leede Arena. The win improves Brown to 11-6 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth drops to 2-14 and 0-2 on the year.
  • Bears Travel to Dartmouth, Harvard in First Full Ivy Weekend

    Providence, RI- In the first full weekend of Ivy play, Brown (10-6, 1-1 Ivy) will take on the Dartmouth College Big Green (2-13, 0-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday and then travel to Harvard (8-7, 1-0) for a 2 p.m. tip-off vs. Harvard on Sunday. The Bears swept Dartmouth last season after a 56-55 win at Leede Arena, and earned a series split with Harvard, defeating the Crimson at the Pizzitola Center, 57-56.
  • Lauren Clarke Named Ivy League Player of the Week

    Providence, RI- Brown University sophomore point guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as well as the College Sports Madness Ivy League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her exceptional performance for the Bears. Clarke averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Bears.
  • Women’s Basketball Faces Yale in New Haven on Friday

    Providence, RI- The Brown women’s basketball team (9-6, 0-1) will travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on the Yale Bulldogs (9-6, 1-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bears opened their Ivy League schedule with the Bulldogs last Friday evening and fell, 75-56.
  • Balanced Attack Leads to 60-55 Victory over Yale

  • Brown Basketball Hosts Special Olympics Jamboree

    Brown University Basketball and Rhode Island Special Olympics teamed together for a basketball jamboree and clinic on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Olney Margolies Athletic Center. The evening featured over 100 Special Olympians from across the state of Rhode Island, along with players and coaches from Brown’s men’s and women’s basketball team, including head men’s coach Jesse Agel and head women’s coach Jean Marie Burr.
  • Holy Cross Edges Brown, 81-74 in Final Non-Conference Game

    Providence, RI- Despite Sheila Dixon's (Schenectady, NY) earning her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Holy Cross prevailed on Monday night on the strength of 59 percent shooting from the field to defeat the Brown women's basketball team 81-74 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The loss drops the Bears to 9-6 overall while the win improved Holy Cross to 10-8.
  • Women's Basketball Returns to Pizzitola Sports Center for Ivy Opener vs. Yale

    Providence, RI- The Brown University women’s basketball team will begin its quest for its seventh Ivy League Championship when it hosts Yale University at 7 p.m. tonight at the Pizzitola Sports Center to tip-off the Ivy League season. Brown enters the evening with a 9-4 overall record and have won its last six consecutive games, while the Bulldogs are 8-4 overall and are coming off three straight wins.
