Providence, RI- Freshman point guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) had a monster game for the Brown women's basketball team last Wednesday to earn her first Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor.
The freshman poured in a career-high 24 points in Brown's heartbreaking 71-69 double overtime loss to in-state rival Rhode Island at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Clarke had an outstanding performance, going 9-for-11 from the field (82 percent) and now ranks second in Brown's record books for three pointers in a game after netting 6-of-8 from beyond the arc (75 percent). She was just one shy of tying the all-time record of seven three-pointers in a game held by Jinny Gill '88.
Clarke is third on the team in scoring with 10.2 points-per-game and is pulling down 3.9 rebounds per-game for the Bears. The rookie has started in all 10 games this season and leads the team in steals with 21.
Brown is back in action at the Hawk Holiday Classic hosted at Monmouth Dec. 29-30. The Bears take on Monmouth at 2 p.m. on the 29th, and will either play American or Binghamton the following day.
