Women’s Hoops Team Thrilled for 2010-2011 Season

Providence, RI- The Brown University women's basketball team is thrilled to start the 2010-2011 season tonight in its first team practice at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Head Coach Jean Marie Burr's squad will start the season with three away games, the first being on Nov. 12 at Albany, and will host Bryant University in its first of 13 home games this season on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Juniors Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) and Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) were chosen as team captains this season, and are two of Brown's nine letter winners returning to the Bears' lineup. With the addition of seven rookies to the roster, Burr is expecting great things from her 2010-2011 squad.

After Brown's home contest against Bryant, Bruno will hit the road for the Iona Thanksgiving Classic where they will take on the Gaels at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 27, and will then play UMBC at 1:00 p.m. on the 28th. Brown remains on the road for one more game at the University of Massachusetts on Dec. 1, before hosting Providence (Dec. 3) and Florida (Dec. 5) in the annual Brown BEAR Basketball Classic. The team will then challenge in-state rival Rhode Island at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Dec. 8 before its three-week break.

The Bears will host five of its six games in January, starting with Buffalo on Jan. 2 and then NJIT on the sixth. Bruno will then begin Ivy League competition with its home-and-home series with Yale, hosting the Bulldogs on Friday the 14th and then traveling to New Haven on the 21st. Then the Bears are in its full Ivy League season, closing out January with home games against Princeton (Jan. 28) and Penn (Jan. 29).

The Bears are away from home most of February, as the month begins with games at Columbia (Feb. 4) and Cornell (Feb. 5) before hosting its only home games of the month against Dartmouth (Feb. 11) and Harvard (Feb. 12). Burr's squad will then compete at Penn (Feb. 18), Princeton (Feb. 19), Harvard (Feb. 25) and Dartmouth (Feb. 25), before ending the season with games on March 4 and 5th against Cornell and Columbia.
