PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Mark McGurrin (Manlius, N.Y.) turned in a 46th-place finish to lead the Brown University men's cross country team as the Bears finished eighth overall at the 2013 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships Saturday morning at Princeton's Windsor Fields.
Brown ended with 253 points, while Columbia captured the title with 48 total points.
McGurrin was the top finisher for the Bears as he completed the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24:49.5. Senior Colin Savage (Liverpool, N.Y.) was not far behind at 48th, crossing the finish line in a time of 25:03.1, while Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) finished 52nd overall in a time of 25:13.7.
Simon Belete (Blue Springs, Mo.) and junior Ben Halpin (Danvers, Mass.) placed 53th and 54th, respectively, in times of 25:14.3 and 25:18.3 to round out the Brown scorers. Also competing for the Bears were junior William Conway (Studio City, Calif.) and senior Jeff Bush (Westborough, Mass.). Conway finished in a time of 25:27.5, while Bush crossed the line at 25:30.6.
The Bears return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 for the NCAA Northeast Regional meet at Van Cortlandt Park.
