Smithfield, RI- A small squad of runners competed Saturday for the Brown men's cross country team at Bryant University. In the first meet of the season, Brown's team score was incomplete with less than five individual finishes and Boston University grabbed the team title on the 8-kilometer course.
Senior Ben Stephenson (Austin, TX) led the Bears in a time of 26:01.1 to finish in 9th place overall out of a field of 125 runners. Stephenson competed this spring in the 3000m steeplechase at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships and is set to carry that momentum into the cross country season throughout the fall. Following behind Stephenson was freshman Will Sheeran (Bellevue, WA) in 13th place with a time of 26:17.9. Junior Kyler Evitt (Somerville, MA) and freshman Will Conway (Potomac, MD) had exciting finishes, both crossing the line in 26:34.4, good for 18th and 19th places respectively.
The Bears will prepare now for next weekend's competition in New York at the Iona Meet of Champions.
