New York, NY- Led by senior Dan Lowry's fifth place finish in 25:06 on the 8Km course on Van Cortlandt Park, the Brown University men's cross country team finished in second place at the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday afternoon with a total of 64 points.
"It was a solid opener for us, and I was pleased with both the execution and effort," said head men's cross country coach Tim Springfield. "We showed good depth, which was a point of focus going into the race. We have some work to do in the coming weeks, but this was a good start."
Following close behind Lowry was senior teammate Matt Duffy with a solid 25:13 for a sixth place finish, and junior Austin Snyder crossed the finish line in 25:32 to earn 14th overall. Rounding out the Bears' scoring was junior Kevin Cooper with a 25:59 (21st) and Erik Berg with a 26:02 (23rd).
Also competing for the Bears today was senior Nathan Chellman with a 26:02 (24th), sophomore Brendan Boyle with a 26:12 (30th), junior Conor Grogan (26:21.59), sophomore Kyler Evitt (26:37), and Jeff Bush (27:20)
Up next, the Bears will compete at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Sept. 30, and then prepare for the New England Championships in Boston on Oct. 8.
