Men's Cross Country Takes 13th at New England Championships; Women Earn Title
Boston, MA-The Brown University men's and women's cross
country team competed at the New England Championships on Saturday
at Franklin Park. The women earned the title in the 49-team field
with 130 points, while the men finished in 13th with 427
points.
The varsity men's squad did not compete today as they are preparing
for pre-nationals next week, but Head Coach Craig Lake sent some
solid rookie runners up to Franklin Park this afternoon. Brown
earned 13th place overall with 427 points, as the men's sub-varsity
squad earned a title with 68 points.
In the varsity race, Austin Snyder was Brown's top finisher with a
25:40 in 45th place, followed by Conor Grogan with a 25:47 in
56th. Also running was Michael Stumpf (25:50), Scott
Friedlander (26:02), Tom Elnick (26:53) and Scott Cary
(27:04). In the sub-varsity race, Kevin Cooper had a breakout
race this afternoon with a stellar 25:53 earning first, followed by
Nate Chellman in third with a 26:12.
The Brown women were led by Ari Garber, who ran an outstanding
race to finish second overall in the individual competition with a
time of 18:04. Following behind was junior Kesley Ramsey (Franklin
Lakes, NJ) with an 18:14 for seventh place, as Michaeline Nelson
ran the course in 18:41 for a 36th place finish.
Also running in the top seven for Bruno was Roseanne Fleming
(18:45), Lauren Pischel (18:46), Ariel Wright (18:52) and Samantha
Adelberg (19:01).
The Bears also won the sub-varsity race with 25 points in the
30-team field, as Erica Hines led the way with a personal best time
of 18:40, which easily would have put her on the varsity squad
today. Crossing the finish line in third place was Rachel Baker
(18:56) and Olivia Thomas (18:56) followed in fourth.
