The Brown wrestling team competed in the 100th edition of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships hosted by the University of Pennsylvania this weekend. The Bears took an eighth place finish with 43.5 points with all four Brown Seniors placing in the event.
The team had an outstanding third round winning eight of ten matches keeping eight wrestlers alive heading into Sunday mornings consolation quarterfinal round and championship semifinal round.
Although Brown won only four of eight bouts Sunday morning, one of those bouts saw senior David Dies (Akron, OH) upset the nations fourth ranked 149 pound wrestler Dustin Manoti of Cornell to earn a spot in the EIWA Finals.
At 165, senior Sean Jenkins (Schnecksville, PA) wrestling with a severely sprained ankle finished his college career with a sixth place showing. At 174, Adam Santee (Perry, OH) who entered the tournament unseeded, finished his college career with a sixth place finish as well.
At 184, senior Nick Ciarcia (Berlin, CT) who was upset in the second round, strung together several consolation victories to finish in fifth place in the toughest weight at this years EIWA Championships.
The Bears will send two wrestlers to the 2004 NCAA Tournament in St. Louis, March 18-20.
