Cambridge, MA - The Brown wrestling team closed out the regular season with a 31-10 victory over Harvard on Saturday at the Malkin Athletic Center in Cambridge, MA. The Bears won seven of the ten bouts on the day, including pins by juniors Shawn Kitchner and Mike Pedro. Brown finished the regular season 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League. The Bears will now look to the EIWA Championships which will be held Mar. 5 and 6 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
Nate Myers won by forfeit to give Brown an early 6-0 edge. Dan Appello followed up with a 10-2 major decision at 133 to give the Bears a 10-0 gap. Harvard got on the board with a major decision at 141 and added three more points with a victory at 149.
However, Brown took control of the match from then on, winning the next five bouts to take a big 31-7 lead. Mike Savino edged out his opponent at 57, 5-4 while Kitchner brought down his opponent at the 4:23 mark. Heath Lohrman picked up a 5-0 win at 174 while Joe Walton recorded a solid 7-3 win at 174. Wrestling two weight classes higher, Pedro brought down his opponent at 4:19. The Crimson got three points in the final match at heavyweight for the 31-10 final.
