Princeton. NJ - The Brown wrestling team opened up the Ivy season with a 32-11 win over Princeton on Friday. The Bears recorded wins in seven of the ten matches on the night, highlighted by two pins by junior David Saadeh at 157 and by freshman Levon Mock at heavyweight.
The match began with Saadeh's pin at 1:25 against Tim Prugar at 157. Princeton responded with a 9-0 win at 165 but Brown went on to take the next two matches for a 12-4 lead. Junior Mike Pedro picked up an 8-4 decision over Matt DeNichlo while junior Doran Heist recorded a 7-3 win over Jack Fleming at 184. The Tigers took the 197 match with Jake Butler getting a medical forfeit to the injuried Leo Saniuk '08.
Mock pinned Kris Berr at 6:33 to give Brown a big 18-8 lead with four bouts left. Sophomore Nate Myers won by forfeit at125 and junior Dan Appello scored a four points in a 12-3 win over Greg Redman at 133. Freshman Mark Savino returned to his home state and came up with a dominating 13-1 win over Matt Piselli to give Brown a 24-point lead. In the final match, Andrew Iannuzzi defeated junior Tim Smith 11-6 for the 32-11 final.
Brown will continue Ivy action tomorrow at Penn to take on the 25th ranked Quakers at noon.
