The Brown University Wrestling team fell 26-16 to the Hofstra Pride today Saturday, February 1, 2003 in the Pizzitola Gymnasium.
The Bears got off to a good start as freshman Lucas Magnani (Islip, NY) recorded a fall at the 2:18 mark in the first period over Travis Sickle of Hofstra at 125. The Pride then turned around and returned a fall at 133 in their own favor as Brown freshman Greg Pace (Bethel, CT) fell to Richard LaForce at the 1:40 mark in the first period.
Brown senior Clint Frease (Clearwater, FL) then went on to defeat Louis Vechin 12-2 in the 141 division, putting the Bears up 10-6. Hofstra then accumulated its second fall of the day as Jon Masa recorded a fall at 2:41 in the first over Brown freshman David Saadeh (Lancaster, PA) at 149.
The Bears then lost three straight as sophomore Michael Savino who wrestled at 157 (Lawrenceville, NJ) was defeated 11-2, senior Chris Ayers (Newton, NJ) lost 3-1 at the 165 weight class, and junior Adam Santee (Perry, OH) was defeated 6-2 at 174.
Brown junior Nick Ciarcia (Berlin, CT) recorded the Bears' second win of the day as he defeated Jason Stretkowicz 5-1 at 184. Freshman Peter Gladish (Kentfield, CA) was defeated in the 197 division 9-1 by Hofstra's Chris Stretkowicz.
The Bears only other win came in the heavyweight division as freshman Lee Beane (Bridgewater, MA) defeated Mike Lodato 7-0.
Brown (6-6 overall) will continue action this afternoon as they host East Stroudsburg University at 3:00 p.m. in the Pizzitola Gymnasium.
