The men's wrestling team dropped to Rutgers on Saturday afternoon at the College Avenue Gymnasium in New Brunswick, NJ. Brown lost six of 10 bouts to lose to EIWA rival 23-13.
Brown's Nick Ciarcia (Berlin, CT) gave the Bears a 4-0 lead with a 12-3 major decision in the first match of the day. However, Rutgers pulled within a point as junior Peter Mosely (Mission Viejo, CA) dropped a 6-0 decision at 197.
Brown chipped away at the Rutgers lead with a win at 133 with sophomore Dan Appello (Roselle Park, NJ) winning his bout 6-3.
In the match of the afternoon at 149 pounds with Brown senior David Dies (Akron, OH), ranked 18th nationally, Rutgers struck first with a reversal in the second period. Dies, however, tied the match in the third period to force overtime and defeated the Rutgers grappler in the extra session, 4-2.
Brown pulled as close as three points at 16-13, after the Bears' sophomore Mike Savino (Lawrenceville, NJ) scored a slim, 2-1 decision at 157.
With the Bears threatening, Rutgers took a 19-13 lead when they registered a 4-2 overtime victory at 165.
In the final match of the day, the Scarlet Knight 13-0 major decision at 174 sealed the win.
Brown will host Drexel at 11:00 a.m. and Lehigh at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 at the Pizzitola Building.
