The Brown University Wrestling Team competed in the first day of the Virginia Duals and came away with one win and one loss. The Bears lost to Nebraska in the first round, and then went on to defeat Virginia Tech in the losers bracket.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated Brown by a score of 26-10 as three Brown grapplers came away with wins. Sophomore Michael Savino (Lawrenceville, NJ) recorded a win in the 157 division as junior Nick Ciarcia won in the 184 weight class. Also grappling their way to a win was sophomore Peter Mosely (Mission Viejo, CA) at 197.
The Bears then went on to compete against Virginia Tech in the Losers Bracket of the Virginia Duals and came away with a 21-9 victory. Recording wins for the Bears were seniors Clint Frease (Clearwater, FL) at 141 and Jason Mercado (Pitman, NJ) at 149, juniors Sean Jenkins (Schnecksville, PA) at 165 and Adam Santee (Perry, OH) at 174. Freshman Lucas Magnani (Islip, NY) won in the 125 weight class as fellow freshman Lee Beane (Bridgewater, MA) recorded a win in the heavyweight division. Recording his second win of the day was Savino at 157.
Brown will continue action in the Virginia Duals tomorrow Saturday January 11, 2003.
