Wrestling Shut Down at No. 6 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – A red-hot No. 6 Cornell squad extended its Ivy League winning streak to 60 matches with a 38-0 win over the Brown wrestling team at the Friedman Wrestling Center on Saturday. The Big Red improves to 6-0 on the season while the Bears slip to 0-6 in dual meet action.

Senior Cortlandt Choate (Orwigsburg, Pa.) and juniors Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) turned in tough showings and fell to their opponents by just two points each, while Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) battled third-ranked Gabe Dean to a narrow 3-2 loss in the 184-pound weight class.

Choate pushed Conner David to the brink at 149, but Cornell's grappler earned the sudden victory decision following a double leg takedown.

McDonald battled Duke Pickett in an evenly-contested match at 174, but Pickett's first period takedown proved enough to hang on for a 4-2 decision.

Neither Bernstein nor Dean would budge during a scoreless first period. Brown's junior captain worked a 2-1 lead after an early third period reversal, but Dean reversed again to seize a 3-2 lead that he would ride to victory.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow with a dual meet at Sacred Heart at 2 p.m.
