Wrestling Gears Up for Navy Classic on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following a season-opening performance that saw four Bears reach the finals in their respective weight classes at the East Stroudsburg Open, the Brown wrestling team is geared up to compete at the Navy Classic at the Wesley Brown Field House on Saturday.

The Mids of Navy will host the 36th annual edition of the 12-team event, which features Brown, Bucknell, the Citadel, Cleveland State, Franklin & Marshall, Kent State, Ohio, Princeton, Tennessee at Chattanooga, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Preliminary rounds are slated to begin at 10 a.m., semi-finals at 2:30 p.m. and finals at 5 p.m.

"This will be a great test as we compete against teams from the Big 10, Big 12, MAC, EIWA and the Southern Conference," said Head Coach Todd Beckerman. "It is a great opportunity to get some quality wins and compete in a team scoring event."

Brown looks to build upon the momentum of last weekend's strong performance at ESU, highlighted by senior captain Cortlandt Choate (Orwigsburg, Pa.), sophomore Anthony Finocchiaro (Canastota, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) earning second-place finishes in the 149, 133 and 157 classes, respectively.

Brackets will be posted throughout the day on the wrestling page of Navy's official web site so fans can follow the action.

Following the Navy Classic, the Bears head west for the two-day Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 6-7.
