Wrestling Announces Class of 2017
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head coach Todd Beckerman and the Brown University wrestling team are pleased to announce the class of 2017, consisting of nine distinguished student-athletes: William McDonald (Carson City, Nev.), Ryder Cavey (Eldersburg, Md.), Jack Twomey-Kozak (Hillsborough, N.C.), James Corbett (Wantagh, N.Y.), Galloway Thurston (St. Ignace, Mich.), Justin Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), Taylor Grenawalt (East Lansing, Mich.), L.J. Remillard (Honolulu, Hawaii), and Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.).

Bernstein and Tanenbaum to Compete at World Maccabiah Games
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rising juniors Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) and Zachary Tanenbaum (Leawood, Kan.) of the Brown wrestling team have both been named to the U.S.A. Wrestling Team that will compete at the 19th World Maccabiah Games from July 17-30 in Israel.

Brown University Names Todd Beckerman Head Wrestling Coach
Todd Beckerman, former Nebraska All-American, has been named the head wrestling coach at Brown University in an announcement made by Brown Director of Athletics Jack Hayes on Friday. Beckerman will head the Bears’ coaching staff following eight successful seasons at the University of Maryland, where he served as the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Dave Amato Retires As Brown’s Wrestling Coach
Brown head wrestling coach Dave Amato has announced his retirement after guiding the Bears’ wrestling program for the last 30 years. Amato is the most successful coach in Brown wrestling history with over 300 career victories.

Watterson, Bernstein Compete at NCAA Wrestling Championships
DES MOINES, IOWA – Junior Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) of the Brown wrestling team picked up individual victories, but both fell in the consolation round to wrap up the 2012-13 season on Friday at the NCAA Wrestling Championships held at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Wrestling Competes in Opening Day of NCAA Championships
DES MOINES, IOWA – Junior Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) both split a pair of matches to advance to the third session as the duo represented Brown University on Thursday in the first day of competition at the NCAA Wrestling Championships held at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Bernstein and Watterson Qualify for NCAAs at EIWA Championship
The Brown wrestling team experienced considerable success at the EIWA Championships this weekend, qualifying two student-athletes for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in the competition held at the Rutgers Athletic Center. Junior Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, NJ) earned his first national berth by finishing fifth at 125 pounds, and sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) wrestled to his second consecutive qualification when he took third place at 184 pounds.

Bernstein and Lanzi Earn All-Ivy Honors
Two members of the Brown wrestling team (9-9, 3-7 EIWA, 1-4 Ivy League) received All-Ivy honors at the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season. Sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) was named to the second team at 184 pounds, while junior Giuseppi Lanzi (Amsterdam, NY) was named honorable mention at 165 pounds.

The Brown wrestling team (9-9, 3-6 EIWA) concluded the 2012-2013 regular season today with two duel matches, falling to the Columbia Lions, 25-12, before defeating the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 43-5.

Brown Defeats Boston University, 19-19, in Tiebreaker After Falling to Harvard, 21-11
The Brown wrestling team (8-8, 2-6 EIWA) split of pair of dual matches in Boston, Massachusetts this afternoon, falling to the Harvard Crimson (6-5, 4-4 EIWA), 21-11, before earning a 19-19 victory over the Boston University Terriers (7-7, 1-4 CAA) in a tiebreaker.

Brown Suffers Tough Loss to Lehigh, 27-16
The Brown wrestling team (7-7. 2-5 EIWA) earned three solid individual victories and battled through one close match but ultimately fell, 27-16, to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (7-7, 3-4 EIWA) in today’s EIWA match-up at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

Brown Defeats Princeton, 20-12, But Falls to Penn, 35-4
The Brown wrestling team (7-6, 2-4 EIWA) split a pair of Ivy League and EIWA duals yesterday afternoon, edging the Princeton Tigers (2-10, 2-4 EIWA) by a score of 20-12 before falling to the #22 Penn Quakers (7-3, 3-1 EIWA) in a 35-4 decision. Sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) was the Bears’ lone double-winner, lifting his season record to 16-6, but several other wrestlers turned in impressive performances over the course of the day.

Brown Defeated by Rutgers, 31-12
The Brown wrestling team (6-4, 1-2 EIWA) lost a tough 31-12 decision to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center, concluding a series of stiff competition for the squad. Two Bears were victorious in the league match-up, as sophomore Ophir Bernstein (Allen,TX) won by forfeit and classmate Sterling Hecox (Harlem, IL) pinned his opponent.

The Brown wrestling team (6-3, 0-1 Ivy) spilt a pair of duals at the Pizzitola Sports Center this afternoon, falling to #6 Cornell (7-2, 2-0 Ivy) by a score of 35-6 before crushing the Rhode Island College Anchormen (5-13, 2-2 NEWA) in a 40-6 decision. Sophomore Sterling Hecox (Harlem, IL) was the Bears’ lone double-winner, but several other wrestlers turned in impressive performances over the course of the afternoon.

Brown Falls to #23 Maryland, 24-6, but Earns Big Win Over Stanford, 16-15
The Brown wrestling team (5-2) went one-and-one in two duals in College Park, Maryland on Saturday, triumphing over Stanford, 16-15, before falling to 23rd-ranked Maryland, 24-6. The results of Saturday’s matches lifted the Bears to 4-1 on their weekend away from College Hill.

Brown Goes Undefeated, Winning Two Duals in the Patriot Classic
The Brown wrestling team (4-1) earned a double victory on Friday afternoon, defeating both Cleveland State (2-3) and George Mason (2-8) in the Patriot Classic, held on the campus of George Mason University. The Bears squared off against the Vikings of Cleveland State to begin the competition, wrestling to a 29-12 victory before downing the Patriots, 20-16. Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) and Sterling Hecox (Harlem, IL) both had two individual victories for Brown, winning their weight class in each of the duals.

Brown Grabs a Win Over Johnson and Wales Before Falling to Rider
In their first dual matches of the new year, both held at the Pizzitola Sports Center, the Brown wrestling team (2-1) earned a commanding victory over Johnson and Wales, 30-10, before falling to Rider, 24-9. Brown wrestlers won seven of the ten weight classes against the Wildcats before taking three additional victories in a hard fought match against the Broncs.

Brown Claims Commanding Victory Over Franklin and Marshall, 24-12, In First Dual Match of the Season
In their first dual match of the 2012-2013 season, the Brown wrestling team (1-0) claimed a definitive victory over the squad from Franklin and Marshall, as the Bears earned 24 points to the Diplomats’ 12. Brown wrestlers took six of the ten weight classes, with two matches won by fall.

Wrestling Competes in the 31st Annual Cliff Keen Invitational
The Brown University wrestling team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend to compete in the 31st annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center on November 30 and December 1. The Bears joined 31 other teams in this prestigious competition, including Ivy League foes Harvard and Cornell.

Three Wrestlers Place as Brown Finishes Eighth at the Keystone Classic
The Brown University wrestling team traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 18th to compete in the 18th annual Keystone Classic. The competition, hosted by the Penn Quakers, featured 15 different squads from around the country, including four Ivy League teams. Northwestern ran away with the title, scoring 156 points and claiming first place in four different weight categories, while Penn (102.5) and Rider (91.0) rounded out the top three. The Bears, led by Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, NY), Ophir Bernstein (Allen, TX) and Sterling Hecox (Harlem, IL), finished in eighth place with a total of 52 points.

Bears Begin Season With Solid Performances at the Binghamton Open
The Brown University wrestling team opened the 2012-2013 season on Sunday with a tournament held at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. The competition was scored only on an individual basis, and featured wrestlers from several top schools, including Cornell, Rutgers, Harvard, Penn, Penn State and Boston University.

Brown wrestling head coach Dave Amato has released the 2012-2013 schedule. The Bears will wrestle in 21 regular season competitions, including eight home matches at the Pizzitola Sports Center and five Ivy League contests.

Brown to Celebrate 100 Years of Wrestling
The 2012-13 season will be a special one for the Brown Wrestling program as it celebrates 100 years of wrestling at Brown University. In addition to its usual schedule of events head coach Dave Amato and the Brown University Sports Foundation will have a black tie optional, milestone celebration on Saturday, October 20 to commemorate this illustrious season.
