Four Brown Wrestlers Earn All-Ivy Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Ivy League has announced the 2011-12 All-Conference teams for wrestling and four Brown student-athletes have garnered All-Ivy recognition. Sophomore Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and senior Dave Foxen (Garden City, N.Y.) were named to the All-Ivy Second Team, while rookies Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) and Sterling Hecox (Loves Park, Ill.) earned Honorable Mention distinctions.

Watterson has been dominant for the Bears at 125 pounds, going 26-7 overall while losing just one bout in Ivy competition and posting four wins. Foxen has been a stabilizing force for Brown, providing senior leadership with a 3-2 record in league bouts at 174. He is 13-12 overall in 2011-12. Both Watterson and Foxen are first-time Ivy League honorees.

Youth was certainly served for the Bears this season and it stepped up in a big way as both Bernstein and Hecox had success on the mat, especially in Ivy matches. Bernstein boasts an impressive 24-11 overall record at 184, with a 3-1 mark in conference bouts. Hecox was actually undefeated in league matchups, going 2-0. He posted a 9-2 overall record while competing at 197 pounds.

As a team, the Bears are 8-11 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League competition. Brown is gearing up for the EIWA Championships on March 3 and 4, hosted by Princeton.
