New York, N.Y. – The Brown wrestling team, coming off of a big win against Harvard last weekend, started off another Ivy League weekend, this time on the road at Columbia, with a win, as sophomore Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) gave Brown an early lead, but the Lions quickly regrouped and took the next nine bouts on their way to a 34-4 victory.
Watterson started the day off at 125 pounds, and wrestled his way to a majority decision victory over Robert Dyar, 11-2, to give the Bears an early 4-0 lead.
In the next match at 133, senior T.J. Popolizio (Shenendehowa, N.Y.) fell to Kyle Gilchrist, 5-1, but Brown maintained its lead, 4-3.
Columbia took over the team lead in the next bout at 141. Junior Grant Overcashier (Goodrich, Mich.) wrestled well, but narrowly fell to Matt Bystol, 7-4, as the Lions took a 6-4 lead.
The Lions would go on to take the next seven bouts, four decisions, one majority decision, one pin and one forfeit, to pick up the 34-4 victory.
