Brown Wrestling Picks up Ivy League Win Over Princeton
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team picked up a 28-21 Ivy League win on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center, defeating Princeton. The Bears came from behind, trailing 17-4 after five matches, but took the next three matches, all by pin, to take control of the dual. Bruno totaled five wins on the day.
Sophomore Billy Watterson began the afternoon with a win a 125, posting a 16-7 majority decision over Ryan Cash and a 4-0 Brown lead.
Princeton went on to take the next four matches on their way to a commanding 17-4 lead, but the Bears would rally, taking the next three bouts, all by pin-fall.
Brown got back on track at 165 as senior Jeff Lemmer pinned Richard Eva in 3:32, to cut the Tiger lead to just seven.
The falls kept coming as senior Dave Foxen pinned Andy Lowy in 5:48 to bring the Bears back to within one point of Princeton.
The Bears got the lead back, an advantage they would not relinquish, in the next bout as rookie Ophir Bernstein pinned Daniel Santor in 4:32 at 184 pounds.
Brown tacked on another fall to close out the dual as Sterling Hecox pinned Charles Fox in just 57 seconds, to take the win a 285 pounds and secure a victory for the Bears.
