Brown Dominates Sacred Heart, 41-0
Fairfield, Conn. – The Bears started their weekend strong on Friday afternoon at Sacred Heart, downing the Pioneers 41-0 in Fairfield, Conn. Every wrestler for Brown (3-5, 2-1 EIWA) was victorious as sophomore Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.Y.), senior Dave Foxen (Garden City, N.Y.) and junior Marcos Aranda (Monument, N.M.) all picked up pin fall wins.
The Bears dominated early as Watterson opened the match by pinning Joe Harris at 125 pounds in 6:17 after racking up 20 points. At 133, junior Beau Martino (Haymarket, Va.) picked up a majority decision over Andrew Polidore before junior Grant Overcashier (Goodrich, Mich.) registered a technical fall over Robert Bailey to help give the Bears a commanding 14-0 lead.
Senior Ricky Bailey (Palmayra, N.J.) kept the wins coming for Brown, defeating Justin Belanger, 7-4, at 149 pounds. Seniors Max Lewin (Wayland, Mass.) and Jeff Lemmer (Milwaukee, Wisc.) also picked up decisions at 157 and 165, respectively, to push the Bears to a 23-0 lead.
Foxen delivered Brown's second pin of day over Jonathan Rizzitello at 174, picking up the win in 4:15.
At 184, rookie Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) was victorious 7-1, while freshman Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) took a 8-4 win at 197. At heavyweight, Aranda pinned Renaldo Cuko in 2:52 for the Bears third pin of the match and a 41-0 Brown victory.
The Bears return to the mat tomorrow, January 21, when they travel to take on Ivy League-foe Cornell at 1 p.m.
