Trent Calder, a two-time NCAA National Champion at the University of California, Berkeley and USA National Team member from 2003-10, enters his third season as an assistant coach with the Brown men's water polo team in 2016-17.
In 2014, Calder helped guide the Bears to their first NCAA appearance since 1990, first CWPA Championship title since 1985, and first CWPA Northern Division title since 2009. He coached three All-North performers in Henry Fox ’15, Will Klein ’16, and Nick Deaver ’15 and a pair of All-Americans in Fox and Klein.
The 2015 edition of the Bears won a second consecutive CWPA Northern Division title and notched an undefeated 12-0 mark in CWPA Northern Division play during the regular season. Klein earned CWPA Northern Division Player of the Year accolades while he and Matty Gallas ’16 garnered All-American status.
Calder also serves as the operations assistant for the Brown women’s water polo program, helping aid the team to a 20-17 record in 2015.
Calder coached at the Lamorinda Water Polo Club beginning in 2007, assuming the head coaching position of the 18-and-under boys team in 2013. As an assistant, Calder helped the 2011 squad post a 44-0 record and take first place at the National Junior Olympics, United States Club Water Polo Championships and Kap7 Championships. He has also spent six seasons as an assistant at Acalanes High School and has worked with Brown players Tommy Bush ’18 and Tyler Kirchberg ’18.
A four-year member of the men's water polo team at Cal, Calder won back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007 while serving as a team captain and earning All-American honors. A member of the USA National Team from 2003-10, Calder donned the Red, White and Blue at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia.
