No. 12 Brown Ends “Rodeo” with Victories over No. 16 UC Davis and No. 19 Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Calif, - The No. 12 Brown men's water polo team ended Santa Clara's "Rodeo" with a 10-6 win over No.16 UC Davis, followed by a 9-7 win over the host No. 19 Broncos. Senior Svetozar Stefeanovic continued to lead the offense with five goals, while Walker Shockley recorded 18 saves in the cage. The Bears improved to 23-2 on the year after going 5-0 this past weekend.

Against the Aggies, Nick Deaver scored 40 seconds into the first quarter, but UC Davis evened the score at the 6:48 mark. Brown then went on a 4-0 run in the next three minutes to lead 5-1 with 3:17 left in the quarter. UC Davis tallied a goal in the final seconds to head into the second quarter with a three-goal deficit.

Brown outscored UC Davis 2-1 in the second after goals scored by Henry Fox and Stefanovic to boast a 7-3 lead at the half.

Stefanovic extended the Bears' lead to 8-3 just 20 seconds into the third quarter, and UC Davis knocked in a goal with 2:24 left to head into the final quarter down 8-4.

The Aggies scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to come within two of the Bears, but Ryan Gladych and James McNamara tallied goals to lift Brown to a 10-6 win.

Stefanovic tallied three goals, six steals and drew six ejections to lead the offense, while Fox, Deaver and Gladych posted two goals apiece. Also scoring was James McNamara. Shockley earned 12 saves in net to lead the defense.

In Brown's final game of the tournament against host Santa Clara, the Bears picked up a 9-7 victory with the help of Stefanovic, Deaver and Cyrus Mojdehi who led the offense with two goals each.

Stefanovic knocked in back-to-back goals to give Bruno a 2-0 lead before Santa Clara got on the scoreboard with 1:58 to go. But Fox and Matty Gallas tallied the team's next two goals to give Brown a 4-1 lead before Santa Clara cut its deficit to two with 23 seconds remaining.

Goals scored by Mojdehi and Gladych gave Brown a 6-2 lead, but Santa Clara scored with 42 seconds left to head into halftime with a three-goal deficit.

Deaver then put in the first goal of the third quarter just a minute in, but the Broncos went on a 3-0 run to head into the final quarter down by just one.

Santa Clara evened the score 7-7 just 1:30 into the fourth quarter, but Deaver and Mojdehi each scored to give Brown a 9-7 lead and win the game.

The Bears will now host MIT on Senior Day on October 26, followed by the Ivy Championship on October 28 hosted at Yale.
