Santa Clara, Calif. – The No. 12 Brown University men's water polo team defeated No. 13 Air Force, 6-5, in their second game of the "Rodeo" hosted at Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Brown earned a 3-1 advantage in the second quarter after goals by Henry Fox, Svetozar Stefanovic and Matty Gallas. Air Force got on the scoreboard first netting a goal just 16 seconds into the second quarter, but Henry Fox evened the score with a goal at the 5:44 mark. Then, Stefanovic knocked one in at 4:08 to edge Air Force 2-1, and Matty Gallas made it 3-1 with a minute remaining in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Stefanovic put the Bears ahead 4-1 at the 4:31 mark, but Air Force netted one just 15 seconds later to cut its deficit to two. Stefanovic then scored again at the 3:00 mark to head into the final quarter with a 5-2 lead.
Air Force scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to come within two of the Bears, but Fox put one in at the 6:38 mark to push Brown's lead back up to three. Air Force scored back-to-back goals to come within one, but the stingy Brown defense shut down the offense and earned the one-goal win.
Stefanovic led the scoring with three goals and four ejections drawn, and Henry Fox put in two goals and added four steals. Gallas also scored for the Bears, while James McNamara helped out with three assists.
