James McNamara Earns CWPA Northern Division Player/Defensive Player of the Week

Providence, RI- Sophomore James McNamara (Los Angeles, CA) scored a game-high six goals with three assists, five steals, a field block and an ejection drawn in a dominating 23-9 victory over Harvard on Thursday to help the No. 12 Bears clinch the Northern Division No. 1 seed. For his solid performance, he earned both the Northern Division Player and Defensive Player of the Week awards.

The honor was his first of the 2012 season, but marks his ninth and 10th weekly honor from the league. Last year, he recorded four laurels by picking up the September 5 and October 24 Northern Division Player and the September 19 and October 31 Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week awards. As a freshman in 2010, he claimed the September 13, October 4, November 8 and November 22 Northern Division Rookie of the Week accolades.

The victory over Harvard clinched not only the No. 1 seed for the Northern Division Championship on November 3-4 at home in the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, but also a guaranteed berth to the 2012 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship on November 16-18 at Princeton University for the Bears. The Northern Division No. 1 seed receives an automatic berth to the division semifinals thereby guaranteeing Brown a trip into the postseason as the Top Four finishing programs in both the Southern and Northern Divsions make-up the CWPA Eastern Championship field.
