Santa Clara, CA- The Brown University men's water polo team (13-5) defeated No. 15 ranked Santa Clara (11-12) 10-4 in its opening game of the Rodeo Invitational hosted at Santa Clara on Friday evening. James McNamara led the offense with four goals, two assists and three steals, while sophomore goalkeeper Walker Shockley tallied 13 saves in the cage to lead the defensive effort.
Brown came out hot right from the start to outscore the Broncos 3-0 in the first quarter, and built a 6-2 lead in the second. The Bears tallied three goals in the third and held Santa Clara scoreless to built its lead up to 9-2, but the Broncos were able to edge Brown in scoring 2-1 in the fourth quarter but the Bears still earned the 10-4 win.
The Bears will take on #18 Cal Baptist and #18 Air Force this afternoon and then end the tournament with #3 Stanford and #12 UC Davis tomorrow.
