Water Polo Defeats Mercyhurst, 12-6

Cambridge, MA- The Brown University men's water polo team picked up another win this evening with a 12-6 victory over Mercyhurst at Blodgett Pool at Harvard University.

Junior Svetozar Stefanovic led the offense again with six goals, five ejections drawn, a steal and a save, while James McNamara added three goals, five assists and six steals.

The Bears gained a 3-1 lead in the first eight minutes of play, but Mercyhurst went on to outscore Bruno 4-2 in the second quarter to even the score at 5-5 at halftime. But the Bears came out strong after the half and outscored Mercyhurst 7-1 in the final two quarters to earn the 12-6 win.

Leading the defensive effort today was Andrew Brown, who tallied seven saves in the cage earning his first career win. Henry Fox also helped out with three steals, and Nick Deaver picked up two.

Adding to the offense was Deaver, Cyrus Mojdehi and Grant Villeneuve with one goal each.

The Bears are back in action against Iona and Connecticut College on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Brown will challenge Iona at 6:00 p.m. at then take on host Connecticut College at 7:30 p.m.
