Annapolis, MD- The Brown men's water polo team won its first two games at Navy's North/South Challenge this afternoon with a 10-6 victory over Johns Hopkins and an 8-7 win over No. 16 Bucknell.
Against Johns Hopkins, Stefanovic tallied three goals to lead the offense, while Henry Fox and Grant Villeneuve scored two each. The Bears gained a 4-2 lead in the first quarter and scored one goal in the second to take a 5-3 lead at the half. Both teams knocked in two goals in the third quarter and then Brown outscored Hopkins 3-1 in the fourth to earn a 10-6 win.
Shockley led the defense with seven saves, while McNamara helped out with five steals. Also scoring was Dean Serure, Nick Deaver, James McNamara. In addition to Stefanovic's three goals, he added an assist, a steal and drew three ejections.
Against the Bison, sophomore Svetozar Stefanovic led the offensive effort by scoring four of the Bears' eight goals, while James McNamara added two to aid in the win. Bucknell jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first eight minutes of play, and both teams scored a goal in the second quarter to put the score at 4-3 in Bucknell's favor at the half.
The Bears came back strong in the third and fourth quarters outscoring Johns Hopkins 2-1 in the third and 3-2 in the fourth to capture an 8-7 victory. Sophomore Walker Shockley led the defense with eight saves, while McNamara and Stefanovic each added three steals to the win.
Also scoring for Brown was Nick Deaver and Michael Hartwick with one goal apiece.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow taking on Mercyhurst and George Washington.
