Track & Field Competes at NCAA Regionals at Florida State

Tallahassee, FL - Eight members of the Brown Track & Field team competed at the Division I 2008 Outdoor Track & Field East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., over the weekend. Highlighting Brown's competitors was freshman Brynn Smith (Sace, ME), who qualified for NCAA Nationals in the shot put.
For the men, Ikenna Achilihu placed sixth in flight two with a 49-01.00, placing 20th overall. Both Ozzie Myers (Chittenango, NY) and Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) competed in the 3,000m steeplechase on Saturday evening, placing 20th and 25th respectively. Myers earned a time of 9:22.6, while Sarro earned a 9:30.00.
On the women's side, sophomore Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) competed in both the discus and shot put for the Bears. On Friday, she tossed a 151-00 for 15th place in the discus, and in the shot put on Saturday, she came in 13th place with a 47-08.50. Also competing in the shot put was Smith. She was Brown's top finisher with a fourth-place finish (51-10.00) and qualified for NCAA Nationals from June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Senior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) ran the 1,500m, and placed 17th overall in the preliminaries with a personal best 4:26.34. Freshman Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC) came in eighth place in heat two with a 2:22.87 and junior Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY) gave a solid effort in the 800m, placing 21st overall with a 55.02.
