Men's Cross Country Places Second (46 Teams) at New England Championships

Franklin Park, MA - The Brown men's cross country team placed second at the 2002 New England Championships out of 46 teams on Friday. The Bears finished with 70 points on the day, behind Providence College, which won the title with 36 points. Dartmouth placed third with 128 points. All seven of Brown's runners placed in the top 50, including two in the top ten and five in the top 25.

Sophomore Patrick Tarpy (Yarmouth, ME) finished first for Brown and sixth overall with a time of 24:23. Sophomore Jeff Gaudette (Biddeford, ME) finished second for the Bears and eighth overall with a time of 24:24. Senior Chad Buechel (Upper St. Clair, PA) finished 13th overall with a time of 24:43.

Junior Matthew Emond (Green Habor, MA) placed 21st overall with a time of 24:51. Senior Jeff Tomlinson (Los Angeles, CA) finished right behind Emond at 22nd with a time of 24:52. Senior Eric Churchill (Pheonixville, PA) placed 28th overall with a time of 24:59. Junior Brendan O'Keefe (Prospect Habor, ME) placed 45th overall with a time of 25:13.

Brown continues competition on Friday Nov. 1 at the Heptagonal Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, NY.
