Men Take Fourth at Iona Meet of Champions

New York City, NY - The men's cross country team competed today at the Iona Meet of Champions. The harriers competed on an 8-kilometer course at Van Cortlandt Park. They took fourth of 25 teams, tallying 137 points. Arkansas won with a score of 20 points. Host Iona College was second with 77, and Cornell took third with 101.

Senior captain Owen Washburn (Amherst, MA) made his 2005 cross country debut, taking 16th overall and first for the Bears. He finished with a time of 25:14.3.

Juniors Nick Neely (Portola Valley, CA) and Chris Burke (Dexter, MI) crossed next, taking 23rd (25:25.7) and 25th (25:30.1), respectively.

Rounding out the top five were junior Neil Hamel (Cumberland, RI) at 42nd in 25:54.5 and senior Jordan Kinley (Santa Rosa, CA) at 26:06.8.

The times were personal bests for Washburn, Burke, Neely, and Hamel. Also setting a personal best was sophomore Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY), who was sixth for the Bears and 61st overall in a time of 26:18.3.

The Bears compete next at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, October 8.
