Philadelphia, PA-- A few select athletes from the men's and women's track and field team headed down to Philadelphia this weekend to compete at the prestigious Penn Relays. The highlight of the meet came when the women's 4x800m relay team set a new school record. Their time of 8:47.22 beat the record set at last year's Penn Relays by .23 seconds.
Senior Julie Komosinski (San Diego, CA) led the team off in 2:14.0, which is the best time she has posted for 800m since high school. Komosinski handed off to junior co-captain Kelly Powell (Patchogue, NY), who split 2:12.9. Junior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) ran the third leg in 2:11.6, and sophomore Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) anchored in 2:08.0. Ferjan was the only returning member from last year's record setting team.
Senior Fara Kitton (Bellmore, NY) won her heat of the 400mH in 1:01.88, beating out all other Ivy League competitors.
The women's 4x400m relay placed fourth in the "Heptagonal 4x400" with a time of 3:50.65, their season best. Sophomore Natasha Barrett (Miami, FL) split 58.7, followed by classmate Cheryl Scott (Atco, NJ) in 57.4. Powell ran the third leg in 56.6, then handed off to Ferjan. Ferjan anchored in 57.0.
On the men's side, junior Ray Bobrownicki (Avondale, PA) placed third overall in the collegiate high jump with a jump of 6'10.75".
The team is now traveling back to Providence to prepare for the Brown Springtime Invitational, hosted tomorrow (Sunday, May 1) at the Brown track.
