Providence, RI - Seven Bears earned titles in their respective events to help the Brown track & field team to a second place finish at the Brown Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Dartmouth's 176 points was good for first, as Brown tallied 141 points, followed by Southern Connecticut (47), UConn (45), University of Birmingham (35), Columbia (31) and Harvard (30).
Earning titles in running events were sophomore Kevin Cervantes (Los Angeles, CA) in the 400-meter dash (48.91), senior Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) in the one mile run (4:16.87), senior Ryan Graddy (Del Mar, CA) in the 3,000-meter run (8:36.86) and Matt Jasmin (Middletown, NY) in the 110-meter hurdles (14.47).
Brown had many other great performances on Saturday, including freshman Marc Howland's (Cleveland Heights, OH) third-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.07), as junior Joseph Mastangelo's came in right behind with an 11.21.
Once again, Bruno did extremely well in the field events. Ikenna Achilihu (Monroe, LA) earned the triple jump title (49-03.75), and Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) earned both the shot put (53-03.75) and discus throw (160-08) titles. Junior Eric Wood (Eugene, OR) turned in two second-place performances, the first in the shot put (50-10.25), and then in the hammer throw (183-05).
Junior Sam Ulracher (Billings, MT) placed third in the javelin throw (177-07), and Reginald Cole (Seattle, WA) came in third in the triple jump (47-08.00).
