Brown Men's Track & Field Compete at USATF New England Championships

Cambridge, MA - The Brown men's track & field team competed at the USATF New England Championships hosted by Harvard University on Sunday afternoon. The Bears turned in many solid performances, and was led by junior Matthew Jasmin's (Middletown, NY) 8.24 for a first-place finish in the 6o-meter hurdles.

Brown sophomore Christian Escareno (Mount Prospect, IL) also turned in a good performance, posting a 4:16.12 effort in the one mile run to earn third place. Escareno also earned eighth place in the 800m with a 2:00.22.

Senior Jacob Nettleton (South Orange, NJ) ran the 5,000m in 15:51.68, as junior Joseph Mastrangelo (Plainsboro, NJ) turned in a 7.23 in the 60m dash for 13th, and earned sixth place in the 200m with a 22.52. Rounding out the running events was senior Deshaun Mars (Brooklyn, NY) with a 7.35 in the 60m dash for 15th.

Sophomore Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) was Brown's top finisher in the field events, turning in a 51-01.00 in the shot put earning third place. Junior David Howard (Columbia, MD) finished with a 48-02.75 for fifth, while also coming in ninth in the weight throw with a 51-04.50.

Brown's Mars came in fourth in the long jump (21-11.75), as junior Miles Craigwell (Boston, MA) had a 20-09.00 for 10th, and senior Zach Jaffa (Foster, RI) earned fifth in the pole vault (13-11.25).

The Bears will now prepare for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships hosted by Cornell University on Saturday, March 1.
