The men’s track & field team had a strong showing at the NY Armory on Saturday afternoon. In a thrilling men’s distance medley relay race, junior Duriel Hardy (West Chester, PA) anchored in a 4:12 to hold off the University of Virginia for the win and also earn a qualifying spot at the IC4As. Brown crossed the line at 10:09.07, while UVA finished right behind with a 10:09.60. The DMR squad comprised of freshmen Tom Elnick (Merrick, NY) and Mike Elnick (Merrick, NY), senior Sean O’Brien (Westborough, MA) and Hardy.
After completing the distance medley, Hardy wasn’t satisfied with just one title, and showed his depth and athleticism as he earned another. Hardy went out and won the one-mile run with a personal best time of 4:12 to qualify for IC4As.
Senior Matthew Jasmin (Middletown, NY) came up with a big win in the 60m hurdles, earning a personal best time of 8.13. Junior Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) placed second in the triple jump with a seasonal best 14.63m. Reginald Cold followed behind with a fifth-place leap of 14.38m. Also posting personal record was junior Alex Stern (Potomac, MD) and junior Zach Malet (Haverford, PA) in the 800m, as they finished with a 1:54.34 and a 1:54.82, respectively.
Sophomore sprinter Marc Howland (Cleveland Heights, OH) placed third in the 60m dash with a 7.04, and senior Stephen Chaloner (Merrimack, NH) came in third with a solid 8:37.21.
Also qualifying for the IC4As was senior Reginald Cole, after posting a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a 14.38m.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday during the USATF New Englands at Harvard, and then to the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships the following weekend.
