Boston, MA - Junior David Howard (Columbia, MD) earned first place in the shot put (17.75m) at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday. Sophomore Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) and Eric Wood (Eugene, OR) also did well, placing eighth (16.00m) and 15th (15.40,), respectively, in the shot put.
Sophomore Kevin Cervantes (Los Angeles, CA) finished with a 48.45 in the 400m dash, and sophomore John Loeser (Weston, CT) and Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) earned a 4:08.04 in the one mile run. Also finishing the one-mile run was Scott Cary (Mt. Vernon, WA) with a 4:29.12.
Sophomore Alex Stern (Potomac, MD) ran a 1:53.09 in the 800m, while freshman Chris Collins (Wilton, CT) finished behind with a 1:55.22, as well as Brian Schilder (Milford, NJ) crossing the line in 1:55.90.
Freshman John Haenle (Lockport, NY) earned 12th place in the 1,000m run with a 2:27.72, and Brown's "A" relay squad finished in 23rd in the 1,600m with a 3:19.31 and Brown "B" finished in 26th with a 3:20.00. Sophomore Colin Brett (Easton, PA) turned in a solid performance in the 3,000m (8:18.44), as did senior Ryan Graddy (14:22.12) and Duriel Hardy (14:22.43) in the 5,000m.
Senior Deshaun Mars (Brooklyn, NY) was Brown's top finisher in the long jump (7.00m) for 13th place, as was Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) in the triple jump with a 14.20m for 15th. Brown's Howard turned in a 18.07m toss in the weight throw taking eighth, and Wood came in 15th with a 16.85.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, February 16th, at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, New Hampshire.
