Kingston, RI-- A limited squad competed at the University of Rhode Island Invitational today, while three other athletes, Patrick Tarpy (Yarmouth, ME), Ray Bobrownicki (Avondale, PA), and Grant Bowen (Plainwell, MI) traveled to New York to compete at the Armory.
Back in Rhode Island, freshman Ikenna Achilihu (Monroe, LA) won the triple jump with a leap of 14.54m, .83m better than his next competitor. Freshman Jamil McClintock (Plainfield, NJ) took fourth in the 55-meter hrudles while sophomore Stephen Bernardi (Haddon Heights, NJ) took sixth in the 55-meter dash. On the field, Bruno captured third place in both the high jump and pole vault, with freshmen John Wade (Omaha, NE) placing in the high jump and Brian Zubradt (Cortlandt Manor, NY) in the pole vault. Brown gathered nine points in the long jump from three different athletes; senior Kevin Ferrone (Mechanicville, NY) took fourth, Bernardi was sixth, and Deshaun Mars (Brooklyn, NY) finished eighth place in this event. Junior Kent Walls (Beckley, WV) was fourth in the weight throw.
In the middle distances, sophomore Neil Hamel (Cumberland, RI) took second place in the one mile run with a time of 4:17.56. Freshman Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) took sixth in the 800m, with classmate Ozzie Myers (Chittenango, NY) two seconds behind in 9th. In the 1000m, sophomore Eamon Quick (Phoenix, AZ) placed second in a close finish with a time of 2:29.63.
The Bears next compete at the Fast Track Invitational in Boston, MA on February 11.
