Brown Men Place Second at Harvard-Cornell Meet

Sophomore Stephen Chaloner's (Merrimack, NH) win in the mile earned Brown 5 of their 36 total points at the annual Harvard-Brown-Cornell tri-meet. The men finished second overall, ahead of Harvard who earned 18 points, but behind Cornell who earned a total of 108 points.
The sprinting events, were highlighted by junior Paul Raymond's (Miami, FL) second place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.04). Junior captain Jamil McClintock (Plainfield, NJ) finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with a 8.22 performance.
In the mile, Chaloner was followed by junior Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) who placed fourth with a 4:14.71 run. Sophomore Sean O'Brien (Westborough, MA) took second in the 800 meter run in 1:53.38. Freshman Christian Escareno (Mount Prospect, IL) and senior Chris Burke (Ann Arbor, MI) placed second (8:26.18) and fourth (8:27.10) in the 3,000 meter.
In the relays, Brown took third in the both the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter races. The 1,600 meter was run in 3:25.25, and the 3,200 meter relay was in 7:58.08.
In the shot put, freshman Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) earned a first place finish with a 15.01-meter throw. Powlen was followed by sophomore David Howard, (Columbia, MD) who finished fourth with a 14.93 throw. Howard also finished second in the weight throw (17.01). Junior Ikenna Achilihu (Monroe, LA) placed second in the triple jump, with a 14.21-meter jump.
The Bears will compete again on February 2 at the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University in New Haven, CT.
