LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Shanelle DeJournett (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed 11th overall in the high jump to qualify for the NCAA Championship as the Brown men's and women's track & field teams completed three days of East Preliminary competition on Saturday at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility.
The preliminary rounds are broken down into two regions, East and West. The top 12 finishers of each region will earn a ticket to the NCAA National Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.
Dejournett punched her ticket to Eugene with a cleared height of 5-10.50, a season best for the outdoor campaign, placing 11th out of 47 competitors. She previously set the school indoor record in the high jump with a mark of 5-11.25 this past winter. In addition, junior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) was 21st in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-08.50.
Junior Josie Natrasevschi (Fort Collins, Colo.), the Ivy League champion in the discus, was 21st at the East Preliminary with a toss of 165-00.
Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.), the lone participant on Saturday, placed 28th in the triple jump with a leap of 49-06.50.
On Thursday, rookie Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) and junior Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished 33rd and 36th, respectively, in the first round of the 800 meters. Lanigan crossed in a time of 1:51.46, while Emrich, who was runner-up in the event at the Ivy League Championship, finished in a time of 1:52.01.
Senior Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who was the runner-up in the javelin at Ivies, wrapped up his career at Regionals as he placed 17th overall out of 48 with a toss of 205-8.
Also in the field, sophomore Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) was 27th in the hammer throw with a toss of 204-7.
