Track & Field Hosts Ocean State Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University track & field teams combined for ten individual first-place performances as the Bears co-hosted the Ocean State Invitational along with Providence College on Saturday at Brown Stadium.

Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.) topped the field in the 400 meters with a time of 48.49 and also turned in a runner-up finish in the 100 meters at 10.83. Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) was second overall in the 800 meters at 1:50.28.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Noah Korotzer (Palos Verdes, Calif.), Oyewole, Nik Zemis (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and Brian Pfaff (Johannesburg, South Africa) placed first with a winning time of 41.84.

In the field, freshman Ryan Laudermilk (Riverside, Calif.) was victorious in the high jump with a cleared height of 6-8.75 and Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) claimed first place in the long jump at 23-7.5. Sophomore Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) won the hammer throw with a toss of 208-3.

On the women's side, freshman May Stern (Providence, R.I.) captured first place in the 400 meters in a time of 56.39, while Clare Peabody (Aptos, Calif.) won the 800 meters as she topped the 40-runner field at 2:08.71.

The 4x100 relay team of Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.), Stern, Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Audrey Holt (Alpharetta, Ga.) turned in a first-place finish in a time of 47.05.

Brown swept the top five spots in the high jump, led by junior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.), who won with a cleared height of 5-8.75. Sophomore Rachel McMahon captured first place in the long jump with a leap of 18-3.75, while Kendra Offiaeli (South Windsor, Conn.) and Josie Natrasevschi (Fort Collins, Colo.) won the shot put and discus, respectively, at 49-7 and 148-8.

The Bears will head to the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational and the UVA Virginia Challenge next weekend.
