PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2016 calendar year at the 34th annual Yale Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, along with several regional programs at the non-scoring meet.
On the men's side, senior Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.) paced the sprinters with a pair of wins in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively, in times of 21.91 and 49.59.
In the field, the Bears posted the top three spots in the shot put, led by Aaron Comery (Coventry, R.I.) with a winning toss of 51-08.50. Matthew O'Hara (Riverside, Calif.) and Chris Cubra (Asheville, N.C.) placed rounded out the top three at 50-11.00 and 49-10.00. In addition, Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) was runner-up in the triple jump (47-10.50) and Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) placed second in the weight throw (60-02.50).
For the women, Audrey Holt (Alpharetta, Ga.) cruised to a win in the 400 meters at 59.01.
Sophomore Carly Paul and rookie Jenell Grier-Spratley (Alexandria, Va.) placed one-two in the high jump with cleared heights of 5-05.00, while senior O'Sha Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) claimed first place in the triple jump at 39-08.50.
The Bears return to action at the Harvard Multi-Event Challenge (1/15) and the Battle for Beantown (1/16).
