Track & Field Hosts Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) captured a pair of victories in the 100 and 200 meters as the Brown men's and women's track & field teams hosted the Brown Invitational Saturday at Brown Stadium.

"We always enjoy competing at home, and we had some nice performances as we head into the championship part of the season," said Tim Springfield, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. "Ryan Kelly really came up big today, and I was very happy with Emma Suchland's debut in the 400. Shandell Scott had a bit of a breakthrough today also in the long jump."

Kelly turned in a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 10.68 and 21.95, respectively. Sophomore Ben Ostrowski (Niantic, Conn.) took first place in the 400 meters at 49.09, while rookie Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) won the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.46.

Senior Hunter Warwick (Monument, Colo.) captured first place in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88, while the men's 4x100 meter relay team cruised to a first-place finish at 41.72.

In the field, sophomore Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) claimed first place in the long jump with a leap of 22-09.75 to round out the list of Bruno victors.

On the women's side, senior Abigail Jones (Barrington, R.I.) and junior Lily Harrington (West Hartford, Conn.) went one-two in the 3,000 meters, respectively, in times of 9:59.62 and 10:16.05. Senior Alex Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) captured the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:01.32, while the 4x100 meter relay team claimed first place with a time of 47.55.

In the field, sophomore Erin Schaeffer (Franklin, Conn.) was victorious in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-05.00, edging fellow teammate Morayo Akande in a jump-off.

The Bears continue the outdoor season on April 17-18 at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational.
