NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown University track and field program returned to action for the first time in 2015 as the Bears travelled to New Haven for the Yale Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
On the men's side, sophomore Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) was victorious in the triple jump as he bested the field of 12 jumpers with a winning leap of 47-05.75.
On the track, rookie Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) earned runner-up in the 500 meters with a time of 1:04.90, while sophomore Ben Ostrowski (Niantic, Conn.) took third place in the event at 1:04.95.
Senior Peter Rhodes (Atlanta, Ga.) finished second in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles and then placed runner-up in the finals with a time of 8.16. Rhodes also made an impact in the field as he placed second overall in the high jump with a cleared height of 6-06.25.
Back in the field, senior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) picked up a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 52-08.00. Teammate Matthew O'Hara (Riverside, Calif.) took third in the weight throw with a toss of 55-03.00.
On the women's side, junior Morayo Akande (Robinson, Ill.) tied for second place in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-0.500. Rookie Michelle Bazile recorded a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a leap of 42-04.00.
The Bears return to competition on Jan. 16 for the Harvard Multi-Event Challenge before taking part in the Battle for Beantown the next day.
