PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rising senior Henry Tufnell (Cirencester, England) of the Brown men's track & field team is set to compete in the 800 meters at Sainsbury's British Championships Friday at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.
Tufnell will run in the semifinals of the 800 meters on Friday, while the finals of the event will take place on Saturday. The top two athletes in each event will be automatically selected for the European Championships, which take place on August 12-17 in Switzerland.
Tufnell recently finished 19th overall in the semifinals of the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:50.33. The national semifinal appearance capped an impressive junior campaign for Tufnell, who set a pair of personal records at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville to earn one of the region's 12 spots to Eugene, despite seeded last at 48th entering the preliminary round. After a standout run in the preliminary round, Tufnell finished 10th overall in the quarterfinals with a personal-best time of 1:47.99, marking the second-best time in program history.
