RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brown University men's and women's track & field teams kicked off the outdoor campaign on Friday with the opening day of the Raleigh Relays on the campus of NC State.
For the women, senior Heidi Caldwell (Hanover, N.H.) placed eighth in the finals of the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:26.51, while freshman Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) took 21st overall in the event at 4:33.09.
Junior Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, N.H.) was the top finisher for Brown in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:47.04.
Sophomore Lily Harrington (West Hartford, Conn.) put together a solid performance in the second section of the 5,000 meters as she crossed the finish line at 16:47.65.
Brown was strong in the throwing events, led by senior Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.), who placed runner-up in the discus at 51.94 meters and fifth in the shot put with a toss of 14.37 meters. Sophomore Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) posted an eighth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 46.43 meters.
Also in the field, senior Brienna Crimmins (Sacramento, Calif.) placed eighth overall in the long jump with a leap of 5.88 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Ned Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) opened his outdoor season with a fifth-place finish in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line against a field of 64 runners with a time of 3:46.34.
In the field, freshman Nkosi Jones took second in the College division of the long jump with a leap of 6.87 meters, while sophomore Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) placed third in the discus with a toss of 57.38 meters.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 29 for the second and final day of the Raleigh Relays.
