Track & Field Competes at Battle of Beantown

BOSTON – The Brown University men's and women's indoor track & field teams combined for 12 top-3 finishes as the Bears competed at the sixth-ever Battle of Beantown Saturday at the Gordon indoor track on the campus of Harvard University.

In the finals of the 500 meters, senior Matthew Bevil (Mary Esther, Fla.) claimed second place in an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:05.10, followed by junior Henry Tufnell (Cirencester, England) in third at 1:05.25.

Senior Colin Savage (Liverpool, N.Y.) ran to a second-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:16.06.

Sophomore Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) finished third overall in the finals of the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 22.17 to qualify for the IC4A Championships.

In addition, the Bears' 4x400 relay team of Bevil, junior Reuben Feinman (Menands, N.Y.), freshman Ben Ostrowski (Niantic, Conn.) and Tufnell cruised to the runner-up finish in a time of 3:18.85.

In the field, senior Jonathan Padmore (Boston, Mass.) picked up a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 44-03.50, while junior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) took second in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 54-00.00.

On the women's side, senior Sasha Teninty (Eugene, Ore.) claimed a runner-up finish in the 1,000 meters, crossing the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:53.50, while fellow senior Katherine DeSimone (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took fourth at 2:56.03.

The Bears recorded a pair of top-3 finishes in the high jump, as sophomore Morayo Akande (Robinson, Ill.) and rookie Shanelle DeJournett (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for second with cleared heights of 5-05.00.

Sophomore O'Sha Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) picked up a second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 37-00.25, while senior Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.) added a runner-up finish in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 45-01.75.

The Bears return to action on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Northeastern Invitational and the Boston University Terrier Invitational, while select members of the team will take part in the Harvard Multi-Events Challenge.
