AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Evan Weinstock (Las Vegas, Nev.) and sophomore Peter Rhodes (Atlanta, Ga.) wrapped up the final day of events in the decathlon at the Texas Relays on Thursday evening at Myers Stadium.
Weinstock finished up the two-day event in 12th place with 6949 total points, while Rhodes took 16th with 6632 points.
"It was exciting to see Evan and Peter out there competing against the best in the nation," said assistant coach Ken Hunt. "This competition gives us an idea of where we are at in our training, specifically in comparison to last year around this time. Peter set a personal best and Evan scored over 500 more points this time around. Although things didn't go quite how we would have liked, we are in good position to compete strong in the latter part of this outdoor season."
Weinstock, who won the heptathlon at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships last month, placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.15), eighth in the discus (40.15), 18th in the pole vault (12-09.50), seventh in the javelin (171-03) and 11th in the 1,500 meters (4:47.72) to round out the final day.
On the first day, Weinstock was seventh in the 100-meter dash at 10.94, 17th in the long jump (21-10.00), 16th in the shot put (38-02.00), 14th in the high jump (5-11.25) and eighth in the 400 meters (50.73).
On the final day, Rhodes was ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.04), 12th in the discus (116-11), 21st in the pole vault (11-09.75), 18th in the javelin (135-09) and eighth in the 1,500 meters.
