Providence, RI- The Brown University men's track & field team eared the Brown Invitational title on Saturday afternoon with 181 points. Following behind the Bears was Rhode Island (163), Harvard (122), Bryant (47), SCSU (43) and Providence (41).
In the running events, senior Mike Mazerik (Poland, OH) won the 100m dash in 11.03 seconds, and Alexander Tounkara finished in second place in the 200m dash with a 22.71 second sprint.
Sophomore Anthony Schurz (South Bend, IN) earned the 1,500m title with a 3:54.06, and was followed by sophomore Matt Duffy (Oakland, CA) in second with a 3:54.65 and freshman Michael Stumpf (Appleton, WI) came in third with a 3:56.10. Senior Brian Schilder (Milford, NJ) finished first in the 3,000m run with an 8:41.98, and freshman Conor Grogan (Hudson, MA) placed second with a time of 8:43.56.
Freshman Nathan Elder (Quincy, IL) finished in third place in the 400m dash wit a 49.79, and sophomore Christian Trautwein (Ridgewood, NJ) earned second with a 1:54.54 and senior Zach Malet (Haverford, PA) earned third with a 1:55.59 in the 800m run.
Senior Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) won the shot put title with a distance of 16.69m, and freshman Daniel Smith followed in second place with a 15.36m throw. Powlen also earned the discus title with a 52.32m distance, and Smith claimed third place with a 44.65m.
Senior Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) won the triple jump with a leap of 14.69m, and freshman teammate Kenneth Thompson (Riverdale, NY) earned third with a 13.09m. Junior Jordan Maddocks (Framingham, MA) earned third place in the high jump with a height of 1.94m, and freshman Alexander Lipinsky (Boardman, OH) finished second in the hammer throw with a 53.13m distance.
