Brown Mens Track & Field Earns Fourth at the Armory

The Brown men's track & field team turned in some great results and earned fourth place at the Armory this weekend. The Bears combined for 57.50 points, finishing behind Virginia (138), Rutgers (93.50) and Army (71). Highlighting the meet was many solid performances by the Bears, including sophomore Matt Duffy's (Oakland, CA) 3,000-meter run title and also senior Bryan Powlen's (Kewanna, IN) first place finish in the shot put.
Duffy garnered the 3,000m title with a fantastic time of 8:14.90, as senior Duriel Hardy (West Chester, PA) followed behind by just one second with an 8:15.38. Senior Colin Brett (Easton, PA) also ran the 3,000m run and crossed the line in 8:27.10 for seventh place.
Senior Mike Mazerik (Poland, OH) had another solid weekend for Bruno, placing fourth overall in the 60m dash with a time of 6.99 seconds. Mazerik also ran the 200m dash and finished in 11th place with a time of 22.68. In the 800m run, Brown sophomore Michael Elnick finished in 14th (1:55.11) and brother Thomas cane in 18th with a 1:56.03.
The Bears' men's distance relay squad earned second place with a swift time of 10:02.29. The team comprised of sophomore Dan Lowry (Plymouth Meeting, PA), senior Brian Schilder (Milford, NJ), sophomore Christian Trautwein (Ridgewood, NJ) and sophomore Anthony Schurz (South Bend, IN).
Powlen picked up the shot put title with a 16.73m throw, while freshman Daniel Smith (Saco, ME) picked up fifth place with a toss of 15.30m. Senior Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) had another solid performance for the Bears in the triple jump. He placed fourth overall with a leap of 14.64m. freshman Kenneth Thompson (Riverdale, NY) also competed in the triple jump and recorded a 12.75m leap for seventh place. Thompson also earned 11th place in the long jump with a 6.20m. In the high jump, junior AJ Fitzgerald (Harrison, NY) finished in sixth place with a 1.94m.
The Bears will compete at the USATF hosted by Harvard on Feb. 21, and will then prepare for the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships on Feb. 27-28 at Dartmouth.
