Men’s Track & Field Competes at Harvard Select Meet

Boston, MA- The men's track & field team competed at the Paul Turner Select Meet in the Gordon Track Center at Harvard University on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears held out several distance runners and their entire jumps squad, but saw very positive results elsewhere as the team is gearing up for their upcoming meets.  The men came in third overall, as UConn came in first and Harvard followed in second. 

Sophomore Matt Duffy earned Brown's best finish as he came in second place in the one-mile run with a 4:17.23.   Following Duffy was Anthony Schurz (4:17.57) in fourth, Dan Lowry in fifth (4:19.94), Thomas Elnick (4:20.49) in sixth and Mike Elnick in eighth with a 4:21.31. 

Bryan Powlen tossed a 15.93m in the shot put for third place, and Daniel Smith recorded a 12.91m toss for sixth place.   In the weight throw, sophomore Zachary Bahr posted a 16.72m toss to earn fifth, while Brian Giese posted a 13.69 for eighth. 

Nathan Elder (51.09) and Zach Keefer (52.76) earned 10th and 11th place finishes in the 400m dash, and Mike Mazerik (7.154) and Marc Howland (7.160) earned fifth and sixth place finishes in the 60m dash.   Howland also posted a solid time in the 200m dash to earn fifth with a time of 22.91 as Sammy Smith finished in seven with a 23.09.

The men's and women's team will now compete at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on January 30th.
