Bears Impressive at Harvard Invitational

Cambridge, MA - The Brown men's tennis team built upon their opening weekend at the Tom Fallon Invitational with a solid performance at the Harvard Invitational. The weekend began with a 7-0 win over Rutgers/UNLV. Adil Shamasdin and Ben Brier were impressive in their singles victories over UNLV's Avi Salomon 6-0, 6-3 and Milos Blagojevic 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile, the dynamic duo of Kris Goddard/Phil Charm played some dominating doubles en route to their 8-2 win over Brook Deming/Gorday Milchutsky of Rutgers.

The second day of tennis proved to be a pivotal one for the bears with duals against Notre Dame and Princeton. The Bruno's stepped up to the challenge playing some of their better tennis of the preseason defeating a Notre Dame team which finished last season ranked #14 in the country, 6-2. The bear's used a mix of youth and experience to upend the fighting irish. Freshman Zach Pasanen knocked off Sergey Leonyuk 6-1, 6-4, while the bears lone senior Chris Drake delivered the knock out punch taking down Nicholas Lopez 6-2, 6-3. Nick Goldberg/Adil Shamasdin lead the way in doubles taking out Notre Dame's McNaughton/D'Amico 8-4.

In the second match of the day the Bruno's took down Ivy League foe Princeton 5-3 in singles and split the doubles 2-2. Junior Jamie Cerretani and sophomore Nick Goldberg continued their winning ways, Cerretani defeated the tiger's Trevor Smith 7-5, 6-2 while Goldberg ran past Tim Kofol 6-3, 6-4.

On the final day of the Harvard Invitational, Brown KO'd its second top twenty team of the weekend defeating #18 ranked Alabama 6-1. Leading the charge for Bruno was sophomore Adil Shamasdin who ended Alabama's Christian Broderson's 22 match win streak 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10). Also picking up an impressive win was Junior Jamie Cerretani who knocked off one of the Southeast Conference's best Stephen Mitchell 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7).
